Ukumbwa's Testimonials

"Ukumbwa Sauti is an amazing human with a ton to offer. If you're curious, reach out to him" - MM-P

“What a wellspring of knowledge and compassion! I can't recommend Ukumbwa Sauti enough!!” - MC

"...for the first two cohorts of SAYMA’s Racial Conflict Transformation Program, I was particularly fortunate to have the opportunity to work closely with Ukumbwa. We are digging deeply into anti-racism capacity-building work at SAYMA and Ukumbwa brought not only a breadth of skill, knowledge and experience to this work, but also unflinching honesty in his approach. Ukumbwa is collaborative, insightful, and creative in his thinking making him an ideal member of the team. It is with great pleasure that I recommend the services of Ukumbwa Sauti for any organization wishing to do internal transformative anti-oppression work."- SRS

“Ukumbwa Sauti has a way of speaking truth to power that is equally intelligent and compassionate. He's a rock star on the anti-racism stage. Anyone wanting a gentle but firm hand to guide them in this work need look no further.” - PG

“Ukumbwa Sauti accompanied southern Appalachian Quakers on a journey toward racial conflict transformation for two years, specifically to support the small community of Quakers of color.
Though he is not a Quaker and has no intentions of becoming one, he did a masterful job of fitting almost seamlessly into the community while providing the anti-oppression insights and supports Quakers of Color and anti-racist white Quakers needed.
Though we are still in process, we would not have made it to this point without his gentle leadership. We are eternally grateful for the time he spent with us.
I cannot recommend Ukumbwa Sauti highly enough.” - SS

"Thank you again for your phenomenal workshop. I look forward to ...many more collaborative experiences." - DJM

"I wanna encourage anyone thinking of working with Ukumbwa to try it.

I worked with him the last time I was assaulted. He helped me craft my victim statement for court - which was the first time out of many times anyone who harmed me was being given a consequence.

I could write a whole essay or three about the experience. And it would be worth doing so. In short, it taught me more about myself, I was able to use my voice and the humans running that system heard me, and, even though I was too confused to know IF it was racism in that moment, in hindsight, I am certain I also stopped the DA from leveraging racism against the man who hurt me. This is a win for me and the things I have worked to learn and practice - and this man who harmed me was forced to hear that when nobody was looking, the white lady he hurt, disrupted harm against him. I have seen a perpetrator change in the face of being humanized before. I hope that man was changed that day. I will never know [and that's okay].

I worked with survivors and in trauma recovery for two decades. I have extensive experience as a victim, as well as a supporter and professional of recovery/afterlife. I still learned about myself and was able to cause some good trouble in thet courtroom that day. I do believe this matters because I believe it changes anyone who heard me that day.

One day you will have a voice. It may be in a court. It may be on a stage. It may be a to a young boy or a frat boy. It may be graffiti on a bathroom wall. And it will cause change. It will matter.

So if you were thinking of it, try some work with Ukumba.

If you already are or did and have any money left over, consider offering a scholarship to pay for another man's work who needs access.

When I was a kid, I believed we could heal together. I must believe this now." - SF

"To this day, the discussions that were generated by Ukumbwa Sauti have been some of the most eye-opening and those that I've carried with me well beyond my graduation. If folks are interested in a phenomenal facilitator that can really lend, please consider reaching out. It was a privilege to be able to take classes from him during my graduate career....[Ukumbwa] would be a valuable addition to any organization." - ET - Non-Profit Executive, Social Worker; past Graduate student at Boston University Racial Justice course

"Thank you for being such an amazing pillar and facilitator for this community." - MC

"Amazing how a simple conversation can help you lay down a burden you didn't even fully realize you were carrying..." - MM

"I will never forget the beautiful circle you held for all of us at the Pagan Pride Day with drums and animal spirit energy. Your spirit is love. Thank you." - KD

"Ukumbwa and the girls were kindred spirits by the end of the day and we all hope he will come to Wellington to tell some kiwi stories. He focused the students so well and got them to tap into their creativity when considering the frame in ways that I can't." - working with visiting New Zealand students, teacher feedback
